how i got into crochet
Last year, in fifth grade, I signed up for an early morning crochet club. We spent a few weeks learning the basic stitches and, one day, as the bell was about to ring, Mrs. Akers said, “Wait, you’ll need to know this last step” to make the magic circle. She showed it to me quickly and the very next day, schools were closed due to COVID-19 — the start of a break that lasted longer than anyone expected.
That spring, I had lots of time to explore this new hobby and learn more skills. One day, my mom and I were at Yellow Door — a shop in Berkley that specializes in Michigan-made crafts. I noticed they have a kids’ section and inquired if I too could sell my creations there. A deal was struck and demand has not lagged since.

Did you know that these cuddly creatures make great gifts?
I make each one by hand, one stitch at a time. Unlike store-bought gifts, each critter is unique and, no, it’s not made in China. All toys are made right here in Michigan, mostly in my bedroom, sometimes in our living room. I’m adding to my family of toys all the time, perhaps there’s one you’d like adopt for yourself or for a friend?

The Dragon Story
My dad’s friend, Lance, loves dragons. He also appreciates fine workmanship and admires a strong work ethic. When he saw some of my handmade crochet toys he said, “Hey man, can you make me a dragon?”
And I was like, “You betcha!”
